Viagra May Help Crohn's Disease

viagra, ed, erectile disfunction, cialis, levitra

Researchers in the U.K. have a new belief to explain the proceedings of Crohn's disease, and they say medications like the erectile dysfunction drug viagra may prove useful for treating the bowel physiological state if they are paw - purchase cheap generic viagra.

In Crohn's disease, chronic redness causes ulcers within the digestive piece of land that can lead to severe gastrointestinal symptoms, including abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, and rectal bleeding.

The most widely accepted concept is that an overactive immune instrumentation causes the damaging fervor. But researchers from the Body Educational institution Capital of the United Kingdom say the reverse appears to be true.

They believe a weaker-than-normal immune salutation triggers the bowel combustion that leads to Crohn's disease. Their investigation appears in the Feb. 25 proceeds of The Lance.

1 Disease, 2 Theories

The prevailing possibility of Crohn's disease is that the body's immune grouping reacts abnormally in mass with the status, producing chronic lighting that leads to bowel wound.

Tony Segal, professor of medical specialty at Body Educational institution Greater London, explains the weak immune system of rules explanation like this: "The wall of the bowel is normally an effective mechanism against the bowel contents, but sometimes the impediment is broken by an communication or health problem and the bowel contents, which include large syntactic category of bacteria, penetrate into the bowel wall.

"Normally, an acute inflammatory consequence would kick in to remove the bacteria and regaining the healthiness of the bowel to normal. But in Crohn's disease, we think that the acute symptom fails to kick-start, leaving bacteria to fester in the bowel wall which, in turn, triggers chronic, secondary coil inflammations."

Segal and colleagues conducted a polynomial of body part experiments that measured somebody libertine cell creative activity in body process to intestinal and skin injury in both Crohn's patients and healthy patients. With lighting, trouser disposition cell lottery are expected to rise. In one inquiry, researchers injected a killed gut bacteria into the forearms of patients and healthy participants to room humour flow and immune bodily process.

They found that the Crohn's patients produced unexpectedly lower levels of Patrick White blood line cells and proteins involved in lighting, compared with family without the condition.

Segal tells WebMD that group who carry a gene that has been linked to Crohn's disease may be especially vulnerable to getting the disease if they have weak immune systems.

He added that drugs like sildenafil, which open the line of descent vessels and amount rip flow, may help.

The viagra Mode

The researchers tested this belief by treating 10 Crohn's patients with 50 milligrams of sildenafil after injecting them with the killed gut bacteria. They found that disposition flow to the infected area improved.

"Increasing disposition flow is an important part of the inflammatory bodily function, and that is why this drug may work," Segal says. "But we don't yet know if this will give rise to successful artistic style. We need to knowledge base this further to find out."

Segal and colleagues are among a maturation performance of researchers suggesting that a weak immune structure, rather than an overactive one, is largely responsible for Crohn's disease, says Establishment of Urban center foot soldier professor of medical specialty Sunanda Kane, MD.

She adds that the new problem solving adds credibility to the belief but does not prove it.

"This is a little more indication that maybe we have been barking up the unjustness tree," she tells WebMD. "The idea that we should be increase the immune organisation -- rather than suppressing it -- sounded a little crazy at kickoff, but the indication continues to come in. But we silence have a long way to go to really understand what causes Crohn's."

Biologic agents that stimulate a medication part of the immune arrangement are now state tested in Crohn's patients. If such treatments prove effective, Kane says doctors would have an effective alternative to steroids, which work well for many patients but have many side effects.

"For decades now suppressing the immune scheme [with steroids] has worked, and we will continue to do so until we find alternatives that work for everybody and are risk-free," she says.
